Alcohol detox is defined as a medical intervention that helps a patient to navigate safely through the process of withdrawal after the cessation of drinking, according to a study published in the Joint Commission Journal on Quality Improvement by The Washington Circle Group convened by the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment Office of Managed Care. Patients who are living with chronic alcohol abuse or alcoholism should begin their treatment with an alcohol detox as part of a comprehensive alcohol treatment program.

Alcohol detoxification can take place in one of two locations: on site at an alcohol rehab facility or off site at a stand-alone detox center (or hospital). Most comprehensive alcohol treatment centers offer alcohol detox as part of their core program. In these cases, the individual begins detox as soon as he or she is done with the admissions process. However, some facilities are not equipped to handle alcohol detox on site. In these cases, the alcohol rehab administrators will recommend a facility in the area that is equipped to provide medical services. Once the patient has completed the detox process, he or she will be free to begin addiction treatment and therapy to address the psychological aspect of alcohol dependence.

Note: It is never recommended that patients who are living with an active addiction begin the withdrawal process without the supervision of medical professionals trained in the treatment of substance abuse and addiction. An inpatient alcohol detox facility is recommended for optimum safety and effectiveness.

Alcoholism is a deadly disease, taking the lives of more than 37,500 Americans due to alcoholic liver disease and other alcohol-related causes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. If you would like to find an alcohol detox that can help you or someone you care about to break free from a dysfunctional relationship with alcohol, contact us at RehabInfo today. We can assist you in locating a top-notch alcohol rehab that will provide you with everything you need to begin a new life without alcohol.

alcohol detox withdrawal symptomsWithdrawal Symptoms

During the first few days without alcohol, an alcoholic is likely to experience a number of different physical and mental withdrawal symptoms. Because the brain and body adjusted to functioning with a large amount of alcohol present, when the individual stops drinking, these functions need to readjust without alcohol. Unfortunately, this is not a simple process; throughout the course of alcohol abuse and addiction, significant and often permanent changes occurred in the brain, and the adjustment process can mean a slew of withdrawal symptoms. These will vary in effect and intensity depending upon the person’s experience with alcohol, but according to the American Academy of Family Physicians, the most common of them include:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Weight loss or weight gain
  • Strong alcohol cravings
  • Sweats and chills
  • Hallucinations (known as the “DTs” and found in the most serious cases of alcoholism)
  • Sleeplessness
  • Headaches, stomachaches and nausea

Alcohol DetoxHistory of Alcohol Detox

Up until the 1970s, alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction were classified as criminal acts. According to a study published in American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse, 1995 Nov;21(4):549-63, patients were often arrested for nothing more than being under the influence and held in the “drunk tanks” of county jails until they sobered up.

Today, alcohol abuse and addiction are understood to be medical disorders that require medical care and intervention. This started in 1958 when the American Medical Association (AMA) first classified alcoholism as a disease and continued in 1971 when the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws adopted the Uniform Alcoholism and Intoxication Treatment Act, according to Alcohol and Health: Report from the Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare by Keller and Rosenberg 1973. This Act said that alcoholics should be given a continuum of treatment that leads to healing.

Models of Care

According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, there are a few different models of alcohol detox that have held favor in the medical community over the years. These include:

  • Medical model. Medication is provided to patients as they stop drinking with round-the-clock medical monitoring by doctors and nurses.
  • Social model. This model cuts out the use of medications and medical care and depends instead upon psychosocial support of counselors and therapists.
  • Pure model. This term refers to any alcohol detox model that relies solely upon medication or solely upon therapeutic support to aid patients as they go through withdrawal symptoms during detox.
  • Integrated model. Most alcohol detox programs at high-end rehab programs combine medication and psychotherapy to create a personalized program that meets each patient’s personal needs.

Inpatient Medical DetoxWhat to Expect at Detoxification

According to An Overview of Outpatient and Inpatient Detoxification by Motoi Hayashida, M.D., Sc.D., patients can expect their experience with alcohol detox to include:

  • Inpatient care. Because those who require alcohol detox experience serious withdrawal symptoms, medical complications can be an issue and medication may be necessary. For this reason, 24-hour medical monitoring is recommended at a residential treatment facility.
  • Intake. When patients arrive, the intake process is undertaken to help the medical team better understand the needs of the individual. A full drug history, medical history, and psychiatric history are done. This is usually completed in the first one or two hours of care.
  • Stabilization. A key component of alcohol detox, stabilization is a broad term that encompasses all the medical and psychological interventions that take place in an effort to help the patient to come to a place of balance physically and mentally.
  • Medication. In some cases, pharmacological assistance may be necessary when there are co-occurring mental health disorders or underlying medical ailments that are complicated by withdrawal symptoms. Sedatives may be necessary to help the patient calm down if he or she is experiencing a psychotic break and/or other medications may be prescribed to help diminish the withdrawal symptoms associated with detox.

Today, alcohol abuse and addiction are still classified as diseases by the American Medical Association. This distinction is important to patients because it opens doors of opportunity for alcohol detox and treatment that include legal support in the form of court mandated alcohol rehab and financial support in the form of insurance coverage as well as a decrease in stigma that is often one of the most debilitating obstacles to those in recovery.

Duration of a Program

The length of time spent in an alcohol detox program will vary based on the personal experience of the patient due to both alcohol dependence and other coexisting issues, like:

  • How long the patient abused alcohol
  • When physical alcohol dependence began
  • The amount of alcohol ingested each day
  • Co-occurring medical disorders
  • Co-occurring mental disorders
  • Prior trauma or alcohol-induced trauma

In most cases, alcohol withdrawal symptoms will begin within 48 to 72 hours after the patient has his or her last drink and reach their height within a few days, according to Medline Plus. Overcoming the withdrawal symptoms can take between five and 14 days, depending upon the treatments utilized. As long as medical care is available in the unlikely event of emergency, it is a safe and effective process.

It’s a Necessary First Step

When a patient stops drinking and experiences withdrawal symptoms, alcohol detox becomes necessary. No progress will be made in alcohol addiction treatment without first addressing the physical withdrawal symptoms that begin in the first couple days of recovery. Because so much of alcoholism and alcohol abuse is a psychological disorder, the most crucial part of treatment happens in therapy. But if withdrawal symptoms, or physical illness, are an issue, then the patient can’t focus and begin the process of working through alcohol-induced or co-occurring mental health disorders or trauma. Mental and physical stability is the necessary first step to take before undergoing the intense nature of psychotherapeutic programs.

Completing alcohol detox represents overcoming the physical component of addiction – an achievement that the individual can build upon in their continued fight against alcoholism. It is not, however, a treatment for alcoholism or alcohol abuse. It is important that patients recognize the need to follow up medical detox with psychiatric care.

Holistic Alcohol DetoxificationWhat Comes Next?

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, a number of care options have been proven effective in the treatment of alcohol abuse and addiction, including:

  • Personal Therapy. One-on-one sessions with a counselor allow patients to feel safe about opening up and discussing the different issues that may have informed the beginning stages of their alcohol abuse or addiction.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The goal of CBT is to help patients identify situations, people and events that trigger in them the desire to drink and learn positive coping skills to better deal with these stressors that don’t include alcohol.
  • Family Therapy. When patients include key family members in their private therapy sessions, they can make progress toward healing after the pain of alcohol abuse and learn how to better communicate what they need in a productive way in the future.
  • Motivational Interviewing. A multi-step process, this type of therapy addresses the current emotional readiness of the patient to move forward in treatment and helps them to maximize their stage of willingness to heal and progress.
  • Motivational Incentives. Also known as contingency management, motivational incentives use rewards to positively reinforce continued abstinence in recovery.

Undergoing alcohol detoxing is merely the 1st step in struggling with a dependancy to alcohol. The treating of withdrawal symptoms doesn’t tackle the root cause of the disease, so people who don’t look for additional treatment will in all probability resume drinking.

Several individuals having mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms will be able to take part in an out-patient detoxing program, as reported by the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Cleansing or detoxification are the elimination of environment and dietary harmful toxins from your body. Eating habits can vary greatly from rigid avoidance of pretty much all solid foods by drinking fluids.

For example, drinking veggie juice, fruit juice and water diets to solid food diets that concentrate on fresh, uncooked vegetables and fruits. Diet plans will last from 1 day to 3 months.

Many People that are tired all the time and also have low blood pressure could have a syndrome that is not recognized by most of the traditional medical doctors, but it is identified and also treated by holistic doctors, and is called adrenal weakness and/or fatigue.

It is often caused by prolonged stress. The detox diet is usually done after the adrenal glands have been replenished holistically through diet, herbs, and other adrenal remedies.

Detox Emotional Troubleshooter

Cleansing on a deep cellular and tissue level can release stored emotion (usually negative emotion) in the body. Emotions are stored in certain organs of the body due to an affinity to the organ. They also store in other parts of the body as well, i.e. back, buttocks, neck, etc. as any good massage therapist will tell you. Feeling a certain way while detoxing (with any Dherbs.Com kit and regimen) simply denotes that the specific corresponding organ is being addressed (worked on for your healing benefit).

Cleansing (detoxifying) is not just physical, but mental, spiritual, emotional, and ethereal. Using the Dherbs.Com ‘Chakra Elixirs’ can greatly help to cleanse on the auric or subtle body level as all disease first appears on the energy level and appears in the human aura which aura photography can show and prove to you. For this reason, Dherbs.Com highly recommend that you have your aura photographed once a year minimal, and four times a year (every seasonal change) maximum.

You can get your aura photographed while at health exhibitions such as the Mind-Body-Spirit expos that are national and some New Age shops and bookstores. In the Southern California area, you can contact Tracy Southern @ tlsouthern@verizon.net or (909) 3154 or (310) 540-8071.

Dherbs.Com will offer Aura Photography beginning January 2009.

Positive

NOTE: The following are generally experienced by those individuals who are spiritually-inclined and/or very aware (conscious) in life.

Calm

The cleansing is greatly working on your subtle body. Most of your stress was due to toxicity in your body and now that the toxins are being thrown off, the stress no longer has an anchor in your body.

Clear-Headed (Clarity)

The cleansing has profoundly affected your head, especially your brain and thus your two highest chakras (6th or Ajna chakra and 7th or Sahasrara/Crown chakra) due to affecting your pineal gland.

Elation

The removed toxicity and acidic state has caused elation which means your head (brain) has been affected by the cleansing and thus your two highest chakras (see above).

Grounded

The cleansing has greatly affected your genital region and its effect has overlapped on the etheric level of your subtle body and has opened your Root or base chakra (1st chakra).

Happiness

See Elation above!

Intuitive

The cleansing has impacted your brain and thus removed calcification from your pineal gland (spiritual center) positively affecting your Ajna or 3rd Eye chakra.

Joyful

Your cleansed body and heightened pH balance has released your natural state of being.

Peaceful

The toxins (which served as an anchor for negativity) have been expelled (or are being expelled), and your heightened pH level makes you feel peaceful. The cleasning has greatly impacted your subtle body. Stored worry, stress, and negative emotion have been released from your body.

Spiritual High

The cleansing has impacted your brain and thus your pineal gland (spiritual center) and opened your 7th or Crown chakra. Per chance, the cleanse (and other things you may be doing) helped to open up all your chakras or removed blocks from them. Original story here.

After the detoxing, or cleansing supporters frequently record having much more energy, better looking skin, normal bowel movements, better digestion and even elevated concentration.

Confer with your medical doctor before you start any detoxing, cleansing or going on a fast program. Understand that a lot of detoxification diet programs happen to be considered to be fads or alternative therapies.

Betty asks…

I was diagnosed with Gall Stones & Kidney Stones. Are there any holistic ways to help combat these?

I already know about a low fat diet, low dairy, etc, exercise and such. I’m waiting to see my doctor after a stint at the E.R. with these lovely stones. Anyone out there know of any natural or holistic remedies for these problems? A flush/cleanse, supplement, diet, herb, anything?
Thanks

admin answers:

Chanca Piedra is an amazon herb known as “stone breaker” and used successfully for years to break up and clear both gallstones and kidney stones.

Daniel asks…

With the Master Cleanse Lemonade Diet, can you drink the lemonade cold, or only hot?

The Diet
consists of fasting to rid the body of toxins,
created by improper diet, lack of exercise and
negative mental attitudes. The purpose of the
Lemonade Diet is to dissolve and eliminate toxins
and congestion; to cleanse the kidneys and
digestive system; to purify glands; to eliminate
waste and hardened materials in the joints and
muscles; to build a healthy bloodstream; to
maintain optimal blood pressure; and to what
you all are waiting to hear… to lose weight.

admin answers:

It can be either but warm to hot is recommended because cold water can slow down the process.

William asks…

Have anyone heard of the Master Cleanse or Lemonade diet?

I did feel dizzy but honestly i was sluggish and tired all the time when i was 180…after i lost the 20 pounds…i felt great…and even motivated! Thousands of people tried it…and you can see the results of REAL ppl on amazon.com if you type in master cleanse!

James asks…

I have a kidney infection and the weight loss is scaring me…help?

I have always had problems with my kidney due to a bad diet and genes ( my mother has similar problems). I recently went to the doctor who suggested I drink lots of water and cranberry juice to flush and cleanse the kidney.

I have been and now have had a bit of a weight loss. I am beginning to get scared as my diet hasn’t changed. I asked my doctor about this and he said it is normal to lose or gain a little weight ( he thinks I am a hypochondriac). I have never had a weight problem and now I am beginning to get funny and grossed out looks from people at my work.

My supervisor even approached me and asked if I needed to leave today. If anyone has experience that is similar can you help? I am afraid it could be serious, but I have been to the doctor multiple times in the past four months and nothing negative like cancer or possible kidney transplant has been the problem.

All I am told is that I drink too much caffeine and need to stop ( I have), what is worse is I am losing weight, but my back still hurts at times.
I have been tested for diabetes, several times and do not have it. My skin isn’t bad, and I have been to a doctor several times.
Yandel I think you may be on to something. I have been eating a lot of fruits and drinking cranberry juice like crazy. I don’t want to lose weight, I am already thin, now thinner and kind of disgusting. I also am worried I may have diabetes, just found out an aunt of mine was misdiagnosed several years ago and DOES have diabetes. Need to head to the doc. Thanks for all the info!

admin answers:

Diabetes, sever weight loss, bad skin, looking drained. Go see a doc immediately and get tested. IT CAN kill you.

Steven asks…

Really bad pain randomly occurs in right kidney ?

Ok so I’m 16 years old.. 5’9, 84 kilos, I don’t drink or smoke, I’ve been on a healthy diet for months now so I’m sure it isn’t cause of eating bad.
I once did a lemon detox cleanse to remove toxins ??
I can’t go toilet properly now and then .. I was told I had inflammed bowel movement by my doctor ..
I’m taking weight loss pills ATM, but it’s not cause of them cause this pain happened a couple of times before I started taking them.
I’ve been on crash diets, and other crazy diets too ..

So twice or so every week I get this horrible pain in my right kidney.
It’s usually after I finish showering on a hot day,
Or when I leave the air conditioner on overnight while I’m asleep.

This pain is so horrible !! It really hurts, it goes on for about 5-10
Minutes and I have to hold my breath and tense my body for as much as possible cause it stops the pain..
it just hurts more and more everytime it occurs … Idk what it could be?!
Kidney stones ?? Kidney failure?? Idk . But I’m scared if it is :/
I’m going doctors soon cause the pain has gotten 10x worse and I can’t handle it anymore, so ye I just wanted a few opinions before stopping by at the docs.

Thx

admin answers:

Sounds like pinched muscles in your back in the area of your kidneys, rather than the kidneys themselves for a couple of reasons. Pinched muscles are pinched by the spine so when the pain starts and you hold your body still you are not moving the spine to pinch the muscles more so the pain will ease up.

If you sleep with the ac on and you wake up in pain it’s because your back muscles tightened up preserving heat in your body and that is what would cause the muscles to go into pain then. To get rid of the pains you have to free up your back muscles and here’s how to do that:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do.

When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

My cat has a sensitive stomach, and has been fine with eating Innova evo wet food, however, it has been brought to my attention that this particular brand of wet is high in phosphorus which can cause kidney problems….any other suggestions for high quality wet foods?
I have tried raw with him- he threw it up immediately,I tried several different kinds of meat…..he just couldnt stomach it. I will try some california natural this week, thank you!

admin answers:

Merrick, Wellness, Drs. Foster and Smith, Natural Balance all come to mind.

Here is a site with a list of the best canned foods out there.

I highly recommend a raw diet for cats with a sensitive stomach. It’s likely thier stomachs have become sensitive because we are feeding them foods thier bodies were never ment to ingest. I have found that feeding species approprite nutrition consisting of raw meat bones and organs, clears up any digestive tract issues with no futher issues.

Is high protein harmful to dogs?

Just curious. I’ve been feeding my dog natural balance sweet potato and fish. My friend and I had a brief conversation about what we fed our dogs the other day and she mentioned that NB was a little low in protein for her taste and that she preffered Wellness Core and Orijen and other foods with 27% protein to 40%. I asked if it would be hard on their kidneys and she said probably not if they don’t already have a kidney problem. I’m not sure what to think. Advice would be good, I’m a bit confused.

How can I make my dog feel better?

=(

He doesn’t like his food, but its a prescription diet from the vet so he has to. We add cheese and turkey or chicken to it and always add chicken broth. I just gave him a good rub and talked to him and stuff, but he is still sad. His nose is cold but dry. My brother came back from college (he loves my brother) and then left about a week and a half ago. I thought he might be sad (my dog) because of that. How can I make him happier?

BACK ROUND INFO:

Age: 8
Breed: Flat-coated retriever
Gender: Male
Other info: When he was a puppy he developed luxating patella (the knee cap moves around and rubs against other bones and tissue) We brought him to a vet who made it worse, then another who worked for only about a year, and another who gave the final verdict “There’s no way of fixing it”, we where given the option of
A. Amputating it
B. Keep it the way it is
We decided we didn’t want to put him through yet anothersurgeryy he had multiple knee surgery, as a young puppy he ate sock (three times).

He also has some kidney problems, but the vet said they got somewhat better, the speical food is for kidneys.

His leg hasn’t affected him much over the years, it has caused him pain sometimes because of althritus. Sometime I forget he is hurt because he still acts like a puppy- chasing us around the yard after a stick.

Anyway, how can I help him feel better and eat his food more?
You dont need to read all of it, its just if you need to get an idea.
Yes, science diet, they vet said to add chicken broth, I know we should add goodies to it- but its the only way to get him to eat it. Lately we have been adding ground turkey and he eats it all.

admin answers:

Are you feeding him Science Diet k/d? If it’s for his kidneys, you really don’t need to be adding anything to it, especially not chicken. Chicken is high in protein and low in fat. Prescription diets for kidney problems are the exact opposite. They are high in fat (to maintain weight) and low in protein. Protein is normally good for you, but it’s harder for kidneys to process. All you’re doing is making his kidneys work even harder.

What worked for my flat-coated retriever when she had this problem was exercise. I took her for a run or played fetch with her for at least 30 minutes every day. Afterward, she was always famished. She would eat anything I put in front of her.

It’s unusual that your dog would dislike k/d or any similar food because of the fat content. Dogs usually like it a lot more than their regular food because the fat makes it smell and taste better to them. You may want to talk to your vet about his behavior.

Stray cat had kittens at our house?

Ok,this stray cat had kittens at our house (we did not witness this,we found them when they were 6-8 weeks) The Mom had been doing ok,we’ve been feeding them and giving them water (they are in the front yard and eat and drink at the front porch, away from our *neutered* cat,Boots.Thats a good thing because Boots need special food for his kidney problem, and shouldn’t eat normal food.) My family is worried because
1.What if they breed? We can’t catch them to spay/neuter them, they are WAY to fast
2.If we keep them,we would be responsible for vet, extra food, ect
3.We can’t give them away (1 Mom would be pissed 2 we can’t catch them
What do we do?

admin answers:

Search online for a no-kill shelter in your area. Then ask them if you can borrow a trap to catch the mother cat and kittens. It’s a cage that closes once the trigger is stepped on by the food platform inside. They may even come out and trap them for you. Some vets also have traps you can borrow and rental stores often have them as well.

I’m hoping Boots is an indoor cat. If not and he eats out of the same food bowl as this mother cats and her kittens or if they trade saliva or blood in a fight then your cat could end up catching a disease from them such as Feline Leukemia.

Please don’t hesitate in doing something about this. Kittens can sexual mature as early as FOUR MONTHS and start breeding! And the mother cat may already be pregnant again from a tom in your neighbourhood.

While I’m fasting, what causes my body temperature to drop?

I’m a 31 year-old female who goes on a 24-hour water fast once a week, and a 48-hour water fast once a month. I always feel great during and after the fast, except I have to bundle up in a warm jacket because my blood pressure and body temperature both drop.

Fasting is a safe and natural way to cleanse your body of all the toxins that build up inside your body and the sludge that coats the walls of your intestines.

admin answers:

Your body probably isn’t metabolizing anything since you are on a fast. Especially during the 48 hour fast, your body only stores a days worth of energy in the liver. Since your body isn’t working to metabolize food your BP and temp could be dropping. Make sure the drops are with in limits. Temp should be between 97-100, and BP 60-90/120-180.

Cleansing fast and still breastfeeding?

I breastfeed about 2 times in a 24 hour period. my daughter is 24 months now and totally a toddler but we are still doing it. I want to start a cleanse some friends of mine are doing. But i heard toxins will go through the breast milk and the baby will get it all….what can i do? i really feel like my body needs this! thanks :)

admin answers:

I would wait until you finish breast feeding before doing your cleanse. If you want to be more healthy just increase your consumption of fruits and vegetables, that will make a big difference. Drink plenty of water. My wife says the best detox cleanse she did was Leslie Kenton’s 10 day clean up plan, it included eating lots of fruits and vegetables but do wait till breast feeding is finished. If you want to feel better – get a massage.

homemade colon cleanse ceriousity question?

is there like a fast 24 hour home made colon clean to clean out your digestive system?

* ive read on Ehow that you can drink fruits like red grapfruit, oranges, pineapples, berries etc. the list goes on. my friend have a drug test tommorrow, he’s not hooked on drugs and most importantly he’s trying hard just picked the wrong way.

if you going to answer this question im really going to need a positive imput because i dont need any body writing the forum saying” to clean you system simply donot do drugs” or this stupid one ” i hate people that…” because after all the people that post negative on people post also ask questions to that get answer with respect by most people. so im only asking because im researching and picked up on a few information that i would need more imput on. also ive heard drink lots of water in which he does all the time. oh wait i must clearify my meaning of drugs im talking about smoking weed. so please help me. test is tommorrow morning. please dont say ” he’s crude because i know theirs something.

admin answers:

Your colon has nothing at all to do with a drug test, check out this website http://www.passyourtest.com/index.html and see if your health food store has the product to pass urine test, if not they should have others, some of them work within 90 minutes and last 5 hours, look for a guarantee on the box. And stay off the drugs

David asks…

juice/water fasting?

im going on a juice/water fast for 24-48 hours to cleanse my body but i dont want to loose too much weight, about how much weight would a person loose durring a juice/water fast?

admin answers:

I don’t like water fasts, this is very unhealthy. There is nothing your body doesn’t already ‘cleanse’ out naturally that this diet will help with. When you water fast, you’ll lose a bunch of weight, and you will be tired with little energy, but as soon as you start eating again, you’ll gain back more weight than you lost.

It is best to just eat healthier and exercise, or a juice fast/cleanse.

Sharon asks…

digestive system?

Describe how the digestive system functions so glucose in food from the outside environment ends up in the cells mitochondria.

admin answers:

Macromolecules such as carbohydrates are broken down and absorbed by the small intestine. Once absorbed, molecules of glucose are then absorbed into the bloodstream where it enters aerobic respiration. Glucose is broken down into pryruvic acid through a process of Glycolysis. It is the pyruvate that is allowed to enter the mitochondria to become citric acid in the krebs cycle.

Charles asks…

Which secretion in the digestive system functions to break down proteins by activatiing pepsin and to….?

kill off most bacteria that is ingested with food or drink?

a. pepsinogen
b. saliva
c. blood
d. hydrochloric acid

admin answers:

PEPSIN is an enzyme used to partially hydrolyze protein. Pepsin is released in an inactive form PEPSINOGEN. The pepsinogen reacts with HCL to form pepsin.

how do the circulatory system, respiratory system and digestive system function together and how do they meet in the body?

thank you very much.

Whoa….rather a complex question that requires an extensive answer to be complete and detailed. Even with my pretty good knowledge of anatomy I can’t do it typing from memory.

Let me refer you to my anatomy bible. It is the classic 1918 Anatomy of the Human Body by Bartleby. Even haven been written in 1918….it is still accurate. The human body hasn’t changed.

What are the functions of the stomach in the digestive system?

What is the functions of the stomach in the digestive system?
I need to know a lot. like what it does, and what enzymes are used.

Thankyou :)

admin answers:

The stomach grinds and dissolves your food into chyme- the product that is absorbed in the intestines. The top of the stomach (cardia and fundus) is not as strong as the bottom (pyloric region), as the strongest gastric contractions originate in the bottom. The stomach will secrete intrinsic factor (to prevent breakdown of vitamin B), gastrin, mucous (for protection of both the stomach and intestine) and will utilize enteroglucagon, Gastric inhibitory peptide, Cholecystokinin, and Secretin though they are not actually produced in the stomach.

Ken asks…

What are major organs of digestive system and their functions?

admin answers:

Mouth and associated structures – physical disruption of food, entry point

Stomach – breaks stuff up with physical force, acid etc

Small/large intestines – absorption of nutrients

I’m 15, Can I Water fast For About 10 Days?

I don’t want to fast because of the weight loss, more for the cleansing and the spiritual aspect of it. I look quite slim already, so I am a little concerned about any large amounts of weight loss.

I’ve also read a lot about the side effects, and one of them is lower back pain, probably kidney pain from having to process all the toxins and the water your drinking. I’ve had very minor issues with my kidneys before, and have experienced the pain they are talking about when I’m not fasting. I don’t know if fasting will help or hinder this. If anyone has any advice it would be appreciated =)
Thank you x

admin answers:

I wouldn’t risk it. Since you’re already predisposed to kidney problems it would be not be a good idea. Overall this doesn’t sound like a healthy idea. I would eat cleansing foods and forget about a water cleansing.

Just my two cents

P.S. If you really want to cleanse for spiritual purposes try antioxidants like resveratrol or green tea, and meditate or explore nature on top of that. But water fasting doesn’t sound like a good idea.

the average time it takes to get a kidney infection if you already have a uti

note:although, people are telling me to take care of it right a way(which i am)i really don’t think a kidney infection/uti is THAT dangerous.

your help would be greatly appreciated and if you know any links that could help, too…
well,so far thanks for you answers.its not that i don’t believe its serious, but its just that everyone i know seems to never believe me when i have a medical problem(sometimes i doubt my doctor does)no one would listen when i was getting sharp pains and such below my stomach, and now they believe me?thats why I don’t seem to think its that big of a deal-they didn’t care before,so i’m not-sorry about that-i’m just a bit upset

admin answers:

You don’t think a kidney infection is that serious ? I have news for you, I can’t tell you how many people have died with that thought on their mind.
The kidneys are the first line of defense against poisons and other body harming agents. An infection is telling you that all is not well. You should take this as a sign that something is wrong and do something about it. SEE A DOCTOR!

How to do a full body cleanse for colon, kidneys, liver, gallbladder, candida?

I was wondering how to do a full body cleanse. I bought some Oxy Powder for my colon; a dry skin brush and some Aztec clay and apple cider vinegar for a full body clay mask for my skin; and some detox foot pads to wear at night. I’m going to eat only fruit and veggies for about 2 weeks and than 2 weeks on juice followed by 1 week of pure water. What other products should I use to cleanse?

But what about cleansing for other things such as my kidneys, liver/gallbladder, and for candida, and parasites? Should I do this during my fasting/ colon detox or wait a few weeks in between. And what products to use?

Phase One: The Natural Colon Cleanse
There is an old saying, “Death Begins In The Colon.” Although an oversimplification, the road to health begins with intestinal cleansing and detoxification–no matter what the disease or problem. And, you miss the big picture when you think it is just about drawing out old fecal matter. We are talking about enhancing each function from your mouth to your anus: digestion, nutrient transfer, waste processing, metabolic functions, toxic drainage, and boosting your immune system. For this program, you MUST do a colon detox before a liver detox or you risk having major toxins push back into the blood stream (since your drain pipe is plugged). Learn More…
Include A Heavy Metal Cleanse
Many health ailments–headaches, exhaustion, and muscle cramps–are coming from heavy metal toxicity. It has been implicated in everything from increased risk of Alzheimer’s and cardiovascular disease to mental retardation and cancer. And, with today’s environmental pollutants, everyone around the globe is at risk. Learn More…

Phase Two: The Kidney & Gallbladder Cleans
he National Kidney and Urologic Diseases Information Clearinghouse estimates that each year, nearly 100,000 Americans are newly diagnosed with kidney failure. More than 100,000 currently have End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) due to diabetes, and an astounding 7.7 million have physiological evidence of chronic kidney disease. Yikes! Paramount to good care of the kidneys is reducing the toxic load they have to deal with, especially proteins and chemical contaminants which can build up in the kidneys, slowing their function, increasing acidity and raising blood pressure. However, the more important reason for doing a kidney cleanse in this program is that it softens gallstones, making the Liver Detox much easier. Learn More…

Phase Three: The Liver Detox
The liver is so important to our well-being that many healers maintain that most diseases cannot develop in the body (that, in fact, no form of cell degeneration can occur) if the liver is functioning in an efficient, healthy manner. Things that harm the liver: protein in the diet, simple carbohydrates, overeating, drug residues, alcohol, toxins, heavy metals, pesticides, lack of exercise, and more. Liver problems can result in digestive issues, constipation, low energy, allergies, arthritis, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and infertility. Learn More…

A few questions regarding water fasting.?

I intend on doing a water fast. For weight-loss, and for cleansing. I currently weigh 160lbs and I am about 5 foot 1 inches.

I know anyone who answers may be just trying to help- I am really just not interested in people telling me this is a bad idea.
I have heard about people doing this, and not dieting. So I doubt i will die.

What are the signs that I need to stop.. I doubt that just hunger pains and dizzyness is anything I should use as cause to stop.
Also- Is “ketosis” bad? I have read some that say ketosis will kickstart weightloss- and burn fat, but what does it do to the kidneys?
I still intend on doing this no matter what anybody here says regarding those questions-

How much weight can I lose in 20-30 days? I know there is the potential in gaining it all back, which brings me to my last question. How do you break a water fast?!

admin answers:

My mom did the water fasting, she only did it for 3 days. The most you SHOULD only go without food just water is a week. My mom lost 4 pounds in 3 days, so maybe 10 ish pounds in a week? But the success to losing weight is eating less, and eating healthier. Good luck!

James asks…

how long will it take for my body to regenerate after this and how can I help it heal faster?

I got drunk yesterday on a 500ml. of a green Listerine mouthwash product
it contained regular drinking alcohol together with isopropyl alcohol thymol methyl salicylate and other chemicals which are damn bad for you (I am aware that this was a bad idea; don’t start nagging me now again; it’s just that all the stores we’re closed and I couldn’t get my hands on anything else)
I was nauseous; puked; had a diarrhea; my liver started hurting really bad for no less than a hour even before I got sober; when I did start getting sober I had a hangover and I had a bad headache
my feces are still not normal enough
I’ve just had a meal and I got nauseous again because it contained a lot of sweet food like dates and soy milk
also I feel a very mild discomfort in my tummy right now (I’m completely sober)
how bad have I hurt my inner organs and how to make them heal/cleanse them/make them regenerate?
also – when will my liver and kidneys will be healed enough to accept an 720mg. dosage of dextromethorphan? I wanted to get myself two cough syrup bottles today but I though that I shall wait a little bit to give a chance to my body to get better
so can you help me out here guys? thanks very much to anyone who shall be kind enough to answer my questions
PS – Invader Zim cartoons are very entertaining and fun to watch! =D
have a good day guys
earwaxyness – no seriously – I’m not an addict
I don’t drink often enough to have actual withdrawls
btw – I guess that smoking some DMT now won’t really hurt anyway
right?
JLM – no
I drinked Listerine before
and I knew that I surely won’t die from just a 500mg. bottle of Listerine
but it’s true that the time that I’ve drinked Listerine before it was only 2/3 of a bottle and not a full bottle (I didn’t have more at that moment)
and it was a different Listerine
the blue one I think (or maybe the green one)
but this time I drinked a different Listerine which I believe that probably contained some more dagereous chemicals then the previous one
that sucks really hard man

A good twenty-four hr. fast allows the digestion system to enjoy a relaxation period, and will help rebalance the human body. Perhaps you meditate, this is a fantastic time to do it. Start fasting in the morning hours of the very first day.

24 Hour Fasting Gives Digestive System A Rest!

Because the fast will last only 24 hours, it is without a doubt, less difficult to help make the commitment. Through waking hours, drink up the lemonade diet or un-sweetened fruit juice, watered down with 50% drinking water. Drink whenever you are thirsty or hungry.

Fasting Helps Digestive System Function Properly!

The majority of people ingest about two to two and a half quarts of the liquid in the course of the fast. A person can mix up the lemonade or the diluted fruit juice in a 1/2 gallon pitcher and drink it through out the day.

You may have heard of a water fast, but the juice fast is not as harsh on your system, as your system is cleansed, toxins are eliminated faster with a juice fast, than a water fast.

Do A Cleanse For Parasites Symptoms

Parasites symptoms include constipation and diarrhea!

The parasite cleanse is actually very similar to a body cleansing in that it can eliminate the body of parasitic organisms that are residing within the colon. Parasites are able to be swallowed quite easily and can certainly create mayhem in the body. Parasites like flukes, tapeworms, pinworms, hookworms, and round worms will reproduce quite speedily.

These types of parasites consume precious vitamins and minerals that the body requires in order to stay healthy. Several parasites will be able to journey through the entire body and also contribute to damage to other bodily organs such as the brain and the stomach, if not taken care of, some of these types of parasites may be destructive enough to kill.

Parasites eat valuable nutrients!

Beginning a parasite cleanse is one of the only ways to stop the parasites from doing further harm to your health. People that have parasites symptoms very often complain of fatigue, stomach pain, head aches, and other such problems. These problems can usually occur because not enough nutrients are being used by the body.

Even though there are other causes for these health problems, one of the most overlooked answers are the parasites. A parasite cleanse will kill adult parasites and also flush them away. This cleanse will also rid the body of eggs that have not yet been hatched.

A parasite cleanse will generally not kill all of the eggs that are present, several treatments might be utilized to catch them after they’ve hatched. Once all of the adults have been eliminated and also the eggs are gone,  the colon will start to function usually once more and also the body will probably be able to obtain the nutrients it requires to stay healthy.

Parasites symptoms need to be examined!

These cleanses could be discovered in health food stores and on-line, if you have parasites symptoms. They contain natural herbs like wormwood, garlic, goldenseal, and black walnut. These herbs have been proven to rid the body of parasites by expelling them via the stool and by killing adult parasites.
